How to: Set databases to open exclusively or in shared mode by default.
Solution:
Select 'Options...' from the 'Tools' menu, select a radio button from the 'Default Open Mode' group of the 'Advanced' tab, and click 'Apply' or the 'OK'.
1) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Options...'. (The Options dialog box appears.)
2) Click the 'Advanced' tab.
3) Do one of the following in the 'Default Open Mode' group:

a) Select the 'Shared' radio button to have Access open databases in shared access mode by default.
b) Select the 'Exclusive' radio button to have Access open databases in exclusive access mode by default.
4) Do one of the following:
a) Click 'Apply' to apply the new settings and keep the 'Options' dialog box open.
NOTE: Click 'Apply' when there are changes that need to be made to settings on another tab. This avoids having to re-open the 'Options' dialog box.
b) Click 'OK' to apply the new settings and close the 'Options' dialog box.
